Anza-Borrego State Park cover one fifth of San Diego County stretching over 600,00 acres. It is the second largetst state park in the continental United States. It was named after Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza and the Spanish word borrego, for bighorn sheep.

If you visit the park you might get a chance to see some bighorn sheep, foxes, iguanas, bobcats, mule deer and more.

The park features washes, wildflowers, palm groves, and cacti, which provide a great atmosphere for the many reptiles and animals in the park. The desert is known for some of the most beautiful wildflowers in the world.

The park includes 500 miles of dirt roads, 12 wilderness areas and 110 miles of hiking trails.

The park is framed by, and includes many rugged mountain ranges: the Bucksnorts and the Santa Rosas on the north, the Jacumba Mountains on the south and the Vallecito and Pinyon Mountains to the west.
